On July 5th, the Canadian government is going to give a one time Grocery Rebate to 11 million Canadians with low income. The bill C-46 (Cost of Living Relief Act, No. 3) has already been approved. The maximum amount of this rebate is set to

  • $81 per child
  • $153 per adult

Who is eligible for the Grocery Rebate?

There is no minimum income requirement, but to be eligible for this Grocery Rebate Payment, the annual net income of a family should not be more than $38,000 and the annual net income of an individual should not be more than $32,000.

  • Must be a Canadian resident for income tax purposes

How is the rebate payment calculated?

The Rebate payment is calculated based on these factors

  • The number of children under 19 years old registered for the Canada child benefit
  • The GST/HST credit.

How Much Grocery Rebate Will You Get on 5th July, 2023

Eligible Canadians can receive additional financial support through the Grocery Rebate program. The amount of financial support depends on various factors mentioned above. The money you can get

  • Couples with two children can receive up to $467
  • Single Canadians without children can receive up to $234
  • Seniors can receive an average of $225

The additional financial support (e.g.)

  • a single mother with a child and a net income of $30,000 can receive $386.50 for groceries on top of the $1,160 received through the GST Credit..
  • a single senior with a net income of $20,000 can receive $233.50 for groceries along with the approximately $701 received through the GST Credit.
  • a couple with two children and a net income of $35,000 can receive $467 for groceries in addition to the approximately $1,401 received through the GST Credit this year.

How To Claim your Grocery Rebate

There is no need to apply for the Grocery Rebate. Eligible people will receive this amount automatically with their July GST Credit Payment from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) via direct deposit or cheque.
